Philosophy

Access Health PhilosopyThe “one-umbrella” or flexible “plug-and-play” range of services included in the offering ensures that the people requirements are aligned with business requirements in the organisation. We can therefore offer the total comprehensive and integrated service to an employee base or we could render specific components complimentary to structures already in place, e.g. benefits of employees who are members of medical schemes and also should there be well established occupational health services in the company. Access Health (SA) has excellent, committed quality-driven in-house expertise in “disease management” and “health management” programmes, which both are integral to truly comprehensive employee wellness programmes and can be effectively deployed alongside medical scheme benefits to ensure excellent wellness offerings. Not only do we provide service collateral to medical scheme benefits, but we also in our wellness approach, monitor individual compliance to their medical scheme programmes to ensure optimal outcomes.

We concentrate on “health” as well as “disease” in our wellness programme, thus having a proactive, preventative emphasis as well as dealing with identified problems and needs. Our proactive and preventative approach for your company will be conducted in a manner that is aligned with the strategic focus areas of your company and will address the unique needs of employees.

As we focus on prevention as well as reactive support, we stratify the employee population according to risk with our in-house developed and market leading WARS Index™. We then align our targeted interventions according to the risks identified and measure the improvement of the identified risks as a baseline to report on.

We therefore do not “cookie-print” solutions but truly align our interventions to most effectively suit the risks identified for groups and individuals. The risks for each site within the operations of your company may well differ, which will be addressed by site specific interventions. The Access Health (SA) WARS Solution™ software programme culminates in the targeted reporting of the risk outcomes and risk reduction accomplished.

We further base our philosophy for employee wellness on the scientific model that different individuals are at different levels of readiness to change high risk behaviour. High risk employees are managed according to their level of readiness to make changes and strategies to motivate employees on low levels of readiness would be different than strategies to employees with high levels of readiness. Our education, support and compliance management programmes enforce this principle of individuality. We therefore do not oversee individuals who do not want to make changes to their risk behaviour, but we change the strategy towards them in order to move them to compliance.

A further philosophical perspective of the Access Health (SA) Employee Wellness Programme is the notion that health behaviour is often defined according to perceived barriers to care, support and intervention. Access Health (SA) therefore emphasise easy access, confidentiality and collaborative discussion with the client to rid employees of the possible perceptions that barriers are present which compromises wellness, productivity and increases absenteeism. Aligning the programme with your company policies and procedures will contribute to the improvement of perceptions and will contribute to the overall wellness of the employee base.

Our programmes are diverse and focus on managers’ and employees’ support in order to contribute to the organisational strategic goals and intelligent management information. Collaboratively with the expressed needs of your company, we would deliver quality interventions, tailor made for the specific unique needs of individuals within your company.

We place a high emphasis on risk management in the true sense of the word. This is illustrated by the flexibility of the WARS Index™ where the specific outcome requirements towards risk management are included in your unique Risk Index. In partnership with your company we will ensure that risks in aspects of the employee’s emotional, physical and organisational environments are measured and intervened upon. We bring the capacity and expertise to the table to address the specific needs of your company and would view the implementation process as an extension of our highly innovative, flexible and quality service delivery.

State-of-the-art Software

Access Health (SA) has invested a considerable amount of resources, time and money in the development of our Employee Wellness Programme. We have developed this over a long period and the development culminated in the in-house Wellness And Risk Stratification (WARS) Solution™ software programme. It consists of decision-making algorithms, protocols and processes which are well established within Access Health (SA) and are highly effective in ensuring that the implementation of the entire wellness programme runs in an efficient and responsible manner.

Despite the fact that Access Health (SA) has invested into the development of our in-house trademarked WARS Solution™ software programme, we are also continuously updating and upgrading our systems to ensure we stay on par with market trends and client requirements. As we emphasise data integrity, research and innovation in our company, we make the updates of our systems available during the implementation of the programmes and we are committed to continuous improvement and enhancements. We are therefore confident that, by implementing our WARS Solution™ software programme, we exceed the expectations of our clients.

Integrated Approach

We have an integrated approach towards the implementation of our wellness programme where facilitation occurs on different levels:

  • We align corporate objectives, medical scheme objectives and the objectives of the Employee Wellness Programme.
  • We align wellness interventions with medical scheme benefits to avoid duplicating services and avoid "cookie printing" intervention to insured as well as non-insured employees.
  • We focus on risk reduction and compliance as the two major pillars of our services. We also include the monitoring of compliance to other components of employee benefits such as subsidised medical scheme benefits to ensure optimal utilisation.

We hold the viewpoint that many services are duplicated under the employee wellness flag when implementing such a programme to an employee group, who already have some of the benefits specified in their medical scheme packages. Our wellness programme consists of ensuring that services for employees are not duplicated, but that services from different stakeholders are rather optimised in order to generate optimal, integrated outcomes. We therefore have different focus points for insured and non-insured employees and emphasise compliance to i.e. medical scheme management programmes available to the employees as part of our wellness strategy and framework. Our data integrity and well-established processes and protocols allow us to include compliance to such programmes in our reports.

Data Integrity

We pride ourselves in the data integrity of our systems and therefore work collaboratively with other role-players, service providers, stakeholders or in-house programmes to render an excellent outcomes-based wellness programme. We will work hand-in-hand with organisational functional areas such as HR, Occupational Health, business units, senior and line management to ensure that the Employee Wellness Programme is disseminated throughout all the areas of your companies operational environments. This is done without compromising data integrity or data confidentiality.

Access Health (SA) is of the opinion that the provision of a well managed, high quality and tailor-made professional service aligned to the unique needs of the company's employee needs and business strategies, will offer the company an opportunity to further improve and enhance their benefits as well as the integration of medical scheme benefits to their employees’ wellbeing.

Project Management

Our methodology is based on excellent project management principles. Starting with identifying risks of the population as well as individuals we could conduct a needs analysis and also do health risk assessments, or if this information is already available, we could include it into our programme as a point-of-entry. This will be done at every site.

After the risk assessment data has been gathered a report on the profile will be offered to your company, after which the strategies will be initiated. This will be done in collaboration with your company, keeping management informed of our implementation plans and strategies.

The monthly and quarterly reports would indicate utilisation, trends, risk stratifications and the compliance to the various programmes such as medical scheme benefits (insured employees) and utilisation of the Access Health (SA) programme.
